Vietnam Visa for US citizens

Vietnam is a great travel destination and probably one of the most popular holiday destinations in Southeast Asia. Vietnam has a lot to offer! It has fantastic nature and landscapes in the north, the hectic streets of Hanoi and Saigon, the beautiful old town in Hoi An, and more.

You won’t get bored so quickly in Vietnam.

Before you travel to the country, you have to take care of the Vietnam visa for US citizens.

The application is not complicated, there are so many different options here, and some also depend on your type of entry and your length of stay in the country.

You will find here the essential information you need to apply for your Vietnam visa.

With the introduction of the e-visa for Vietnam, the country wants to prevent travelers from using the more expensive and insecure Visa on arrival. Indeed, it is very easy to apply for a Vietnam e-Visa online.

After filling the form, you are required to send the payment. Also, a passport scan and photo must also be submitted. Our team will finally check the application for errors before sending it to Vietnam.

Types of Visa

Depending on the purpose of the trip, travelers can apply for the following visa:

  • Vietnam transit visa
  • Vietnam tourist visa
  • Vietnam business visa

The electronic transit visa is a unique visa for people who travel through Vietnam but want to leave the airport.

The business and tourist visas for Vietnam are also unique visas that are issued exclusively for business and tourism purposes. Both visas are valid for 30 days and a maximum stay of 30 days.

In the past, it was only possible to enter one of the three international airports (Hanoi, Da Nang or Saigon) with the online visa. You must already specify the airport when applying for a visa.

Entry by land (e.g., by bus from Laos or Cambodia) was initially not possible with the e-Visa. However, the laws have changed here! Because they have 33 checkpoints for entry with the e-Visa.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure you take care of your Vietnam visa application online at an early stage. You will typically receive it by email within three days at the latest.

How to Apply for e-Visa

You can apply for a Vietnam e-Visa as early as you like. To optimally prepare your application for your e-visa, you should have the following documents ready digitally:

  • The first page of your passport (the data page with your photo and your personal data) in jpg, jpeg or gif format, no larger than 2 MB
  • A digital passport photo in jpg, jpeg, or gif format, no larger than 1 MB.
  • If you have prepared both, you can get started with the application.

You can go directly to the application page via our website. It explains how the process works: Upload documents, enter data, pay the fee, wait a maximum of three days, receive the registration code, and download Visa Approval.

You confirm at the bottom of the page that you understand this information. Then you will get to the application form, in which you enter your personal information. Please fill in the fields in English.

Mandatory fields are marked with a red asterisk. If you have entered everything correctly, you confirm the information and will be forwarded to the payment page.

The application will then be approved within three working days. However, we cannot guarantee the delivery times as the Vietnamese authorities must first accept the applications.

Final Steps

Before you travel, you should print out the e-visa twice. The Vietnamese border official needs one when you arrive at the airport. One should remain with you for security.

Tip: Save the e-visa digitally in a location that you can easily access if your documents are lost, e.g., in the cloud, in your mailbox, or on a USB stick. So nothing can go wrong.

At the Vietnamese border control, you will receive a stamp in your passport after submitting your e-visa (please make sure that the data is correctly entered!) And you are ready for your adventure in beautiful Vietnam.
